I had a condo in Destin painted with Duration Home and 10 days after the second coat the paint was be peeling off in many places: in every room. several conversations with SW and they took samples to test. Contractor has been painting in this area for decades and never seen anything like it. Spoke to manager at a large paint store and he said others had complained of the same problem around the same time. Anyone else have issues with peeling with Duration Home in coastal/hot/humid areas? The A/C was on all the time so the environment inside was cool and consistent.

Lab testing found "pinholes" they say prevented it from drying properly however there are no visible pinholes-- I guess they must be microscopic. Anyone ever heard of such a thing. SW says the paint was put on too thin and caused the microscopic pinholes. Painting manager says based on other complaints he thinks this paint doesn't dry properly in very warm humid climates.

Anyone have any experience with this?

Was the second coat peeling or was the first and second coat peeling?

I've seen it happen a couple times as a rep.

if the second coat was peeling off the first coat, then something must have got on the first coat (hairspray, grease, drywall dust, most common examples), or the second coat was put on too soon after the first coat (coated an hour or 2 after the first coat, not allowing proper 4 -6 hours to dry depending on humidity). could also be too thick of a coat and applied too soon.

if the both coats were coming off the wall, going to the original coat or drywall, then you had some sort of "unstable surface" either something was on the wall, or the original drywall was weak for some reason or the original base coat was not prepped properly, primed or sanded if their was a s/g finish on the surface. Clean dull dry.

I'm sure you took care of everything properly, paint is pretty simple really, 99.999999% of the time its not the product its the prep, and application. the other .000001% its the paint.

I live in AZ and every wall, baseboard, and door peel after using Sherwin Williams paint. SW took a sample and after a month of waiting, they informed me that the peeling was due to drywall dust.

We peeled off all of the paint, washed the walls, primed, and re-painted but 6 months later, the paint is still not fully cured.

If you lean anything against the wall for awhile and move it, the paint peels off with it. Do Not ever use Sherwin Williams paint!!!!
